The little girl blinked up at the stranger - strangers? She smiled though and nodded. “I’ll try my best!” the small child declared.

Her papa always said that it was polite to meet ‘new neighbours’ with a gift and a friendly hello. Polite, friendly gestures were the way to go. Her papa also told Persephone that this man had an ‘ob-seshion’ with oranges, too, whatever that meant. Still, the child of six had gone through the trouble of trying to tie a ribbon around an orange to present to the silver-haired man.

“Hello, Mister General. It’s nice to meet you. My name’s Persephone and this is for you!”

With a big smile, the citrus fruit with a big red bow was presented to Sephiroth.

Children were not a regular occurrence in Sephiroth’s line of work. He scarce had opportunity to be around them, and even when in the vicinity… it was not often that parents allowed their children to approach a celebrated war hero.

And out of the blue, one had bounded up to him and offered him… his favorite.

…Children might be alright.

Yet, they weren’t quite as tall as he was. Sephiroth had to stoop to accept the gift, and even to make eye contact with the little girl.

“Thank you, Persephone,” he said, starting with basics, a little unsure of how to speak to a human significantly smaller and younger than himself. “It’s nice to meet you, as well.”

Fruits were always the best gifts. You normally gave people a basket of fruit to say hello or break the ice, but all the little girl had on hand was an orange. It seemed to be the right gift as the older man’s eyes seemed to light up a the sight of the citrus fruit. In Wutai the bigger the fruit the better; this orange seemed pretty big to her as it took both of her hands to hold it and clumsily tie a ribbon around it.

“Wow, you’re biiiig,” she stated, emphasizing on the big. Her papa was a bit of a giant, too, but she didn’t expect to be meeting so many tall people in one place. Then again, back in Wutai, everyone had a smaller, slighter stature. “It’s very nice to meet you, Mister General, sir!” Giggling, the tiny girl did a salute; something her military father taught her, probably as a little joke. “Papa says you’re a good friend, so I thought I’d say hello. Oh, wait…I didn’t say who papa was did I?”

Leaning in close as if she were telling a big secret, she placed her hands at each side of her mouth and whispered, “My papa’s Angeal. He’s a very good papa to me.”

Persephone liked the snow. It was soft and cool, yet you could make amazing things like snowmen and snow angels. The little girl just liked the idea of being outside, all bundled up with her coat and scarf and mittens and playing in the snow. Tufts of it fell all around her, getting into her dark hair and attaching themselves to her coat. She stuck her tongue out, catching a few flakes on her tongue, giggling.

Winter was the best time of year, next to spring, as far as Persephone was concerned.

“Alright pumpkin lets go.” He walked the rest of the way home, carrying her in his arms. “So you had fun with the other kids?” he asked her on the way.

“Lots of fun. We played hide-and-go-seek. I found everyone!” Persephone liked being carried by her papa - it was like being on top of the world! “Did papa have fun outside today?”

He raised an eye brow at her expression but ended up smiling because of her cuteness. “Want to go home and get something to eat?” he asked her. 

Persephone nodded. “Mmmhmm! Yes, please. Let’s go home, papa!” The dark-haired girl snuggled close to him, just happy to see her father again.

Happily, the small girl…

“Why yes. How were you?” he laughed as she corrected him and showed him proof that she was smaller then him.

“I got to play with some of the local children. And I met a prince, he was funny,” Persephone said, the last part spoken dreamily. All little girls dreamed of meeting their prince one day, it would seem.
